A club professional from New York nearly achieved a remarkable victory on the Champions Tour, finishing second in a playoff against Steven Alker at the Cologuard Classic in Tucson, Arizona.

Jason Caron, the 52-year-old Head Golf Professional at Mill River Club in Oyster Bay, N.Y., balances his regular job with competing on the Champions Tour. He earned his tour card last season after an impressive run of four top-five finishes in ten tournaments, following a qualifying spot in the Senior PGA.

At the Cologuard Classic, Caron shot rounds of 67, 68, and 66 at La Paloma Country Club, including clutch birdies on his final three holes to tie for the lead. His performance put him in contention against major champions like Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington, and Bernhard Langer.

Steven Alker, who played his final 11 holes in six-under-par, matched Caron's tournament total before winning on the first playoff hole. Despite falling short of victory, Caron earned $193,000 for his runner-up finish.

This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone for Caron, who hadn't played full-time professional golf since 2003 on what is now the Korn Ferry Tour. His success story demonstrates how club professionals can still compete at the highest levels of senior professional golf while maintaining their day jobs.
