Collin Morikawa Reveals Emotional Decision Behind Surprising Caddie Change
Collin Morikawa has parted ways with his long-time caddie JJ Jakovac after six successful years together, appointing Joe Greiner as his new full-time bagman. The split comes despite Morikawa's solid form in 2024, suggesting the decision went beyond simple performance metrics.
Speaking on Dan Rapaport's 'Dan On Golf Show', Morikawa explained: "Sometimes things just aren't feeling right. Even at the beginning of the year everything looked very, very good, but sometimes, on the golf course things just don't feel right."
The two-time Major champion emphasized that the split doesn't diminish his successful partnership with Jakovac, which included victories at the 2020 PGA Championship and 2021 Open. "It wasn't an easy talk and I hope all the best for him," Morikawa said. "I hope guys are lining up for him because, look, if you look at his resume, if you look at what we've done just simply over the past six years it's incredible."
Greiner, who recently separated from Max Homa and briefly worked with Justin Thomas, helped Thomas secure his first victory since 2022 at the RBC Heritage. Morikawa expressed enthusiasm about working with Greiner, noting: "He's a great caddie, he's one of the best out there. Sometimes when you have a new caddie it frees people up and obviously it helped JT for those two events."
The new partnership shows promise, with Morikawa highlighting Greiner's desire to continuously improve: "For me, what I've seen with Joe, he's someone who wants to continue to learn and get better. We've already talked numerous times on how we're going to get started."
