Green Fees At PGA National's Champion Course: What It Costs To Play The Bear Trap

The PGA National Champion Course, home to the Cognizant Classic (formerly Honda Classic), is one of five 18-hole layouts at PGA National Resort. Known as one of the PGA Tour's most challenging courses, it features a scoring average of +1.41 and a slope rating of 144.

The course is famous for "The Bear Trap" - a treacherous three-hole stretch (15, 16, and 17) named after Jack Nicklaus, who redesigned the course in 1990. A plaque reading "It should be won or lost right here" marks this challenging section.

To play the Champion Course, you must be either:

  • A resort guest (rooms range from $280 to $1,500 per night)
  • A member
  • A guest of a member

Green fees for resort guests can reach approximately $450 during peak season, plus a $70 forecaddie fee.

Notable winners at the course include Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott, and Jack Nicklaus himself. The challenging layout features narrow fairways, water hazards throughout, and often windy conditions that test even the world's best players.
