Holyhead Golf Club in North Wales must temporarily close its 18th hole after a neighbor complained about stray golf balls landing on their property. The club must now raise £75,000 to build a new green further from the neighbor's land.

Isle of Anglesey County Council issued a notice citing health and safety concerns for both golfers and affected residents. The historic coastal course, designed by five-time Open Championship winner James Braid in 1912, is currently operating with 17 holes while seeking a solution.

"We are very disappointed," a club spokesperson stated. "I don't know of any golf club in the country who can just find £80,000 out of thin air. But we can't bury our heads in the sand and just hope everything will be okay. We have got no defence against it."

The club has launched a GoFundMe campaign to finance the green's relocation, raising over £8,500 so far. They aim to complete the work by May 1, 2025, at which point they expect to resume full 18-hole operations.
