How The PGA Tour Cut Rule Works: Only Top 65 Players Make The Weekend
The PGA Tour cut rule ensures competitive integrity across most tournaments by allowing only the top-performing players to continue competing in the final rounds. Here's how it works:
Standard Cut Rule
- Top 65 players and ties advance to weekend rounds
- Applies to most regular PGA Tour events
- Field sizes typically 120-156 players
- Players who miss cut receive no prize money (except in Majors)
Signature Events Cut Rule
- Applies to Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and Memorial Tournament
- Top 50 players and ties advance
- Smaller initial field of 70-72 players
- Approximately 15-20 players eliminated after 36 holes
Events Without Cuts
- Five Signature Events: The Sentry, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, RBC Heritage, Truist Championship, Travelers Championship
- All three FedEx Cup Playoff events
- Zozo Championship
- Guarantees star players compete all four days
