McIlroy, who was previously one of LIV Golf's strongest critics, now advocates for unity in professional golf and suggests that those harboring ill feelings about recent events should move past them. His comments came as Donald Trump's intervention could potentially accelerate the deal between the PGA Tour and Saudi PIF.

Wagner strongly disagreed with McIlroy's stance, particularly concerning the financial impact on sponsors. "The fact that he's saying that we've all benefited, he's just seeing things from a finite perspective," Wagner stated on Golf Central. He noted that sponsors, who "pay all the bills," have seen decreasing TV ratings while being asked to contribute more money.

The Golf Channel analyst also criticized McIlroy's apparent shift in position and his push for an elite world tour. "Rory has said a lot of things over the past couple of seasons that have rubbed a lot of players the wrong way," Wagner explained. "Now, he wants everyone to get over it, he's pushing for a small world tour. He's trying to get his way in every way."

Despite his criticism, Wagner did commend McIlroy for his candor in press conferences, acknowledging that the Northern Irishman consistently provides honest answers regardless of public opinion. "He gives his honest answers whether you like it or not," Wagner concluded.

The exchange underscores the ongoing challenges in reconciling different perspectives within professional golf as the sport works toward potential unification.
