Jon Rahm Hopes DP World Tour Appeal Delay Will Save His Ryder Cup Dream
Jon Rahm's Ryder Cup eligibility currently depends on the timing of his DP World Tour appeal hearing. The Spanish golfer, who recently joined LIV Golf, remains confident about participating in the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

LIV golfers face a one-tournament suspension and £100,000 fine for each LIV event that conflicts with DP World Tour tournaments. While Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, and Adrian Meronk can still compete on the DP World Tour until an arbiter rules on their appeals, their Ryder Cup futures remain uncertain.
"I don't know what's going to happen in the future, but I can tell you my plan is to be on that team at Bethpage," Rahm stated at Emirates Golf Club. He hopes the appeal won't be heard before the Ryder Cup, as an unfavorable ruling could jeopardize his participation.
Rahm also advocated for Sergio Garcia's inclusion in the 2025 team. Garcia, who paid his DP World Tour fines in November, plans to return at the Bahrain Championship. "Sergio Garcia can hit it tee-to-green better than anybody on the planet," Rahm emphasized. However, Garcia cannot serve as captain or vice-captain due to a 2018 rule barring resigned members from leadership roles.
Regarding golf's broader landscape, Rahm expressed hope for resolution between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF). "I think so many of us want some kind of resolution to come together and get the best product possible for the consumer," he said, acknowledging the slow progress since the framework agreement's announcement.
The situation highlights professional golf's current divide, with Rahm's Ryder Cup fate symbolizing the sport's ongoing challenges in reconciling traditional tours with LIV Golf's emergence.
