Jordan Spieth's Latest Wrist Scare: A Mixed Return at Phoenix Open
Jordan Spieth experienced a concerning wrist scare during his return to competitive golf following surgery. During the first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, he "jammed" his wrist on a bunker shot, causing it to "lock up" on his 10th hole.
Despite this setback, Spieth showed promise at the WM Phoenix Open, shooting a three-under 68 at TPC Scottsdale. While missing 8 of 14 fairways, he managed just one bogey and showed improvement in his approach shots, ranking among the top 20 in the field.

Spieth is maintaining realistic expectations following his August 2023 wrist surgery. His immediate goals include:
- Maintaining physical health through his next three tournaments
- Getting into contention at least once before the Masters
- Making the Ryder Cup team
"My expectations are low," Spieth admitted. "I expect myself to make good swings, but as far as results, it's hard to think that I should be expecting a lot after six months off essentially."
The three-time major winner is taking a long-term approach to his recovery, focusing on a 10-year outlook rather than immediate results. While encouraged by his recent performance, he acknowledges the challenge of returning to competitive play after such an extended break.
"When it's not moving well," Spieth explained about his wrist, "for me, I've got a lot of lean and a lot of left hand involved, and if it's not leaning, it's going to go pretty far off line."
Despite these challenges, Spieth remains optimistic about gradually returning to form while giving himself grace during the recovery process. His improved approach shots and overall game management suggest positive progress in his comeback journey.
