Former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley has outlined a comprehensive proposal for unifying PGA Tour and LIV Golf, addressing the ongoing discussions between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF).

McGinley's key proposal points include:

  • PGA Tour and LIV Golf continue operating independently
  • LIV players get unrestricted access to DP World Tour
  • Top 10 LIV players gain access to The Players Championship and 5 Signature Events
  • LIV provides access for 2 PGA Tour teams in season finale
  • PIF matches SSG's $1.5 billion investment in PGA Tour Enterprises

This structure would create 11 annual tournaments where top players from both circuits compete together:

  • 4 Major championships
  • The Players Championship
  • 5 Signature Events
  • LIV's season finale

McGinley emphasizes that compromise is necessary: "No one Tour is going to absolutely win and no one Tour is going to absolutely lose. You've got to break eggs to make an omelette."

The proposal aims to make golf more globally accessible, addressing concerns about the sport's current America-centric nature. McGinley notes that this arrangement would empower the DP World Tour by allowing players like Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and Jon Rahm to compete more regularly.

McGinley concludes: "Where we are at the moment, it's such a divided world in golf. Somebody has got to give on some side and there's got to be give on both sides to find some common ground."
