LIV Golf Stars Reed, Garcia Chase Open Championship Berths at Macau Tournament
Patrick Reed and Sergio Garcia lead a group of 17 LIV Golf players competing at the Asian Tour's International Series Macau Event, seeking qualification spots for the Open Championship at Royal Portrush. The tournament offers three qualifying positions for the top finishers not already exempt.

After three rounds, Reed and Carlos Ortiz share the lead at 16 under par. Jason Kokrak sits tied for third at 13 under, while Garcia trails by six shots from the leaders.
Garcia, who missed the Open Championship in 2023 and 2024 after playing 22 consecutive years, emphasized the tournament's significance: "It's my favorite major, so I would love to be back in it. I'm going to give it my best shot this week."
The R&A recently announced an additional qualification pathway, offering an exemption to the top-ranked LIV Golf player not already qualified following the LIV Dallas event in June. Garcia currently holds third place in the LIV Golf individual rankings, behind already-qualified Joaquin Niemann and Jon Rahm.
For Garcia to secure his Open Championship spot directly through the Macau event, he needs to overcome a three-shot deficit to third place, surpassing Kokrak, Dominic Foos, and Lucas Herbert in Sunday's final round.
Reed, who played in the Masters and PGA Championship last year but missed both the U.S. Open and Open Championship, stated: "Any time you have an opportunity to qualify for a major, it just gives you extra motivation to go out and have a little bit more drive to play your best game."
