Ally Ewing, currently ranked No. 18 in the Rolex Rankings, will play her final LPGA Tour tournament at the CME Group Tour Championship this week. The 32-year-old's decision to retire comes during her most successful season, having earned $1.9 million and achieved six top-10 finishes in 2023.

Despite her career-best performance, Ewing remains confident in her decision to step away from professional golf. Her recent success, including a memorable Solheim Cup appearance, has only reinforced her choice.

"If anything, it gave me more and more peace," Ewing said. "I never looked at my family or my husband at any point in the year and said, I don't know."

Several factors influenced her retirement decision:

  • Type 1 diabetes management will be easier with a more stable routine at home
  • Desire to start a family with her husband
  • Preference for home life over constant travel
  • Planning for potential high-risk pregnancy due to her medical condition

Ewing, who joined the LPGA Tour in 2016, has accumulated three career wins. She expressed satisfaction in ending her career while playing at a high level, stating, "I didn't want to just fizzle out. Fortunately, knowing this year was my last year I've played some of my best golf."

Looking ahead, Ewing plans to focus on life's simple pleasures, such as sleeping in her own bed and making coffee at home. While she'll miss the Tour and her colleagues, she's ready to embrace a new chapter in her life.

Her final competitive round will take place this Sunday at Tiburon in Naples, Florida, where she hopes to maintain composure until the very end. "I'll try to avoid eye contact with the family until after I finish hole 18 for sure," she said.
