Ludvig Aberg's Late Collapse at Players Championship Ends with Shocking Double Bogey
Swedish golfer Ludvig Aberg missed the cut at The Players Championship after a bizarre sequence on the 16th hole at TPC Sawgrass. Leading up to the tournament, Aberg had praised the course's back nine, noting how it could reward good shots but severely punish mistakes.
At even-par and needing likely one birdie to make the cut, Aberg's troubles began on the par-5 16th hole. After finding the right rough off the tee, he skulled his second shot only 40 yards. His third shot advanced just 130 yards into the left rough. His fourth shot from 75 yards bounced over the green and into the water hazard.

The sequence resulted in a double-bogey 7, effectively ending his chances of making the weekend. He finished with pars on 17 and 18, posting a three-over 75 for the round and two-over total, missing the cut by three shots.
Ironically, Aberg had highlighted his struggles with rough shots during his pre-tournament press conference, stating: "I would like to deal especially with the rough — I felt like from the fairway it was fine, but judging the lies off the rough last week was tricky."
This setback demonstrates the challenging nature of TPC Sawgrass's closing holes, where, as Aberg himself predicted, players can "go 6, 6, 6" if they don't execute their shots properly.
