Miraculous Tree Bounce Helps Brian Campbell Secure First PGA Tour Win at Mexico Open
Brian Campbell's victory at the Mexico Open came with an extraordinary stroke of luck during the second playoff hole against Aldrich Potgieter. His wayward drive on the 18th hole, which appeared destined for trouble, received an incredible bounce off a cluster of trees.
The Titleist ProV1x ball traveled just 227 yards before striking trees on the right side of the 538-yard par-5. Instead of being lost, it miraculously bounced back into play, keeping Campbell's championship hopes alive.

Campbell capitalized on this fortunate break by laying up to 68 yards and hitting a precise chip shot to within five feet. He converted the putt to secure his first PGA Tour victory in 187 professional starts.
"That was not by design. I don't recommend going right on that tee shot," Campbell admitted after the round. "I was very fortunate to get the bounce."
His caddie Cooper Wilson added: "That ball shouldn't have bounced back, but it did. And then he had a 3-wood off the dirt, hit a 60-yard shot to however close and made it to have a job for two more years."

The victory nearly doubled Campbell's career earnings, with the $1.26 million winner's check far exceeding his previous total of $1.5 million. The win also secured his PGA Tour card through 2027 and earned him spots in The Players Championship and The Masters.
