PGA Tour Rookie Brought to Tears After Last-Minute Players Championship Entry
PGA Tour rookie Danny Walker received a life-changing call at 7 a.m. Thursday morning, earning a last-minute spot in the 2025 Players Championship after Jason Day withdrew due to illness.

The 29-year-old Florida native, who earned his first PGA Tour card after finishing 28th on the Korn Ferry Tour last year, was the first alternate for the tournament. Upon receiving the news, Walker retreated to his car and became emotional, reflecting on his childhood dream of playing in the event.
"It meant the world to me. Wanted to play in this event since I was a little kid, especially living here locally," Walker said. "I went and sat in my car for a few minutes afterwards and just kind of let it hit me a little bit, maybe let a tear out."
Walker was paired with major champions Jordan Spieth and Wyndham Clark for his first Players Championship round. Despite the prestigious company, he remained composed, stating, "They were nice guys to talk to. So it was pretty normal after that."
In his opening round, Walker posted a one-over 73, featuring five birdies (including one at the iconic island-green 17th hole), four bogeys, and a double bogey. He will begin his second round at 1:51 p.m. ET on Friday, still within reach of making the cut.
The unexpected opportunity marked a significant milestone in Walker's career, transforming from spectator to participant at the PGA Tour's flagship event.
