PGA Tour veteran Charley Hoffman has penned an open letter to tour members addressing several key issues facing professional golf. The letter focuses on three main concerns: pace of play, player participation, and tour event support.

Regarding pace of play, Hoffman acknowledges it remains a significant issue requiring immediate attention. While reduced field sizes may help marginally, he emphasizes that players must take personal responsibility to speed up play, especially when out of position.

The 20-year tour veteran then addresses what he sees as hypocrisy among certain players who claim they want to play fewer PGA Tour events while still participating in outside competitions like TGL and DP World Tour events. He argues this undermines tour strength and contradicts the spirit of open competition.

Hoffman also critiques the implementation of the Aon Swing 5 initiative, noting that at the recent Pebble Beach Pro-Am, it only created two truly new playing opportunities rather than the intended five.

He concludes by emphasizing the PGA Tour's foundation of open competition, where any qualified player can earn their way to success. Hoffman urges members to support more tour events and maintain strong fields that showcase the best head-to-head competition in professional golf.

The letter follows a recent similar communication from Justin Thomas requesting increased player engagement with TV broadcasts to enhance fan experience.
