The PGA Tour has approved significant changes to take effect from January 2025. Here are the key modifications:

Eligibility Changes:

  • PGA Tour status reduced from 125 to 100 players by 2026
  • Korn Ferry Tour promotions decreased from 30 to 20 players
  • Q-School limited to exactly 5 cards (no ties)
  • DP World Tour's 10 Cards Initiative remains unchanged

Field Size Adjustments:

  • Open tournaments reduced from 156 to 144 players
  • Some events further limited to 132 or 120 players
  • The Players Championship decreased to 120 players
  • Multi-course events maintain 156 players (except Farmers Insurance Open)

Monday Qualifiers and Sponsorships:

  • Fewer Monday qualifier spots in limited-field events
  • Two spots for 132-player fields
  • No Monday qualifying for 120-player tournaments
  • Restricted sponsor exemptions eliminated
  • Four unrestricted sponsor exemptions maintained

FedEx Cup Points Revisions:

  • Increased points for second-place finishers in Majors/Players Championship
  • Reduced points for positions 11th and lower
  • Signature Events points unchanged for top 6, reduced for lower positions

Amateur Opportunities:

  • Top-10 finishers (including amateurs) qualify for next open event
  • Additional point for college golfers' top-5 finishes in PGA Tour University system
  • Direct PGA Tour membership possible with 20 points by third year of NCAA eligibility
