Pro Golfer Bud Cauley's PGA Tour Card Hangs On Players Championship Top 5 Finish
Bud Cauley needs a strong finish at The Players Championship 2025 to retain his PGA Tour card following a serious car accident in 2018 that left him with five broken ribs, a broken lower left leg, and a collapsed lung.
After getting into the tournament as a Monday qualifier following Lee Hodges' withdrawal, Cauley has positioned himself in the top 10 heading into the final round at TPC Sawgrass. He needs specific results to secure his future on tour:
- A top-18 finish would earn enough points for the remainder of this season
- A prize of $1.25 million or more (equivalent to solo 4th place) would lock up his playing rights for next season

Cauley has been playing on a major medical extension since his return in February 2024, with 27 tournaments granted to retain his card. The Players Championship marks his 22nd event overall under this extension.

The American remained in the top 5 throughout the front nine of the final round, coinciding with his 35th birthday. A strong finish would not only secure his immediate playing future but also provide a significant payday from the tournament's $25 million purse.

Cauley's previous best result was his lone victory at the 2014 Hotel Fitness Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour. After receiving the late entry on Monday, he was able to prepare properly with practice rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday at TPC Sawgrass.
