PGA Tour pro William Mouw handled a devastating octuple-bogey 13 at the American Express tournament with remarkable grace and humor. The incident occurred during the second round at the Pete Dye Stadium Course's par-5 16th hole, where Mouw went from six-under par to two-over in a single hole.

The sequence began when Mouw found himself 25 yards out after two shots, facing an imposing 18-foot-high bunker wall. What followed was a series of unfortunate attempts: hitting over the green, multiple failed bunker shots, and several back-and-forth attempts before finally finishing with a total of 13 strokes.

The next day, Mouw showed impressive resilience, responding with a stellar 67 that included nine birdies. His attitude throughout the ordeal drew praise from fans and fellow players alike.

"People know that bunker and I'm definitely not the first to get captured by that bunker and make a big number and certainly won't be the last," Mouw reflected. "When it's happening you just have to laugh at it and accept it and move on."

Notably, Mouw maintained his composure throughout the entire ordeal, showing no signs of frustration or anger. He wears a bracelet that reads "Never, ever give up," which proved particularly fitting during this challenge.

The incident, while unfortunate, revealed Mouw's character and earned him new fans. His ability to turn adversity into a positive learning experience and maintain a sense of humor - joking the next day, "Let's start off with I didn't have a 13 today" - demonstrated the kind of mental fortitude essential for success in professional golf.
