Rory McIlroy Jokes About Scheffler's Kitchen Injury: 'He Made Enough Money to Hire a Chef'
Rory McIlroy playfully questioned Scottie Scheffler's kitchen mishap, noting the world No. 1 golfer could afford a chef after earning over $29 million in PGA Tour prize money last year. Scheffler injured his right hand with glass while cooking ravioli during Christmas, requiring surgery and forcing him to miss four events.

McIlroy praised Scheffler's exceptional 2023 performance, particularly highlighting his unprecedented number of bogey-free rounds. "I've never seen a golfer play as many bogey-free rounds as Scottie," McIlroy said. "He just doesn't make mistakes. He plays the right shot at the right time over and over again."
Scheffler recorded 17 bogey-free rounds in 2023, including notable performances at:
- Major championships (Masters, Players Championship)
- Regular PGA Tour events (Sentry, Arnold Palmer Invitational)
- Season-ending tournaments (Hero World Challenge)
Explaining his consistency, Scheffler attributed it to superior ball control: "Having good feel where my swing's at helps me manage my way around the course, playing the appropriate shot. It's more about managing where the miss is than just not making mistakes."
For context, LPGA star Lydia Ko has posted 138 bogey-free rounds since 2014, significantly more than her closest competitor Lizette Salas (84). Scheffler returns to competition this week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am after his injury recovery.
