Rory McIlroy Opens Up About Looking Up to Shane Lowry in 'Full Swing' Documentary
During the second episode of 'Full Swing' Season 3, titled "Through Thick and Thin," Rory McIlroy reveals the unique dynamic of his friendship with Shane Lowry, which began during their junior golf days in Ireland.
The episode, focused on golf friendships, follows their journey to the 2024 Zurich Classic - McIlroy's first appearance at the tournament in his 17-year career, sparked by a casual lunch with Lowry.

In candid confessionals, Lowry expresses his protective nature towards McIlroy, noting the unnecessary criticism his friend faces from the public, media, and fellow players. McIlroy, in turn, admits to struggling with life balance and views Lowry as a role model, particularly admiring his ability to manage various life aspects with ease.
"Sometimes I've struggled with the balance of trying to be the best golfer, trying to be the best husband or the best dad... and sometimes I get overwhelmed," McIlroy reveals. "I see how Shane does it with a lot of ease... and I see him as a good role model for me in some ways."
Their friendship story culminates in a playoff victory at the Zurich Classic - marking McIlroy's 25th PGA Tour victory and Lowry's third. The duo will return to defend their title at the 2025 tournament in April.
The episode also features the friendship between Canadians Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor, who partnered at the Zurich Classic with hopes of securing a spot in the 2024 Presidents Cup team.
