Rory McIlroy is reportedly set to make his professional debut in India later this year at a new $5 million Rolex Series event at Delhi Golf Club. The tournament, scheduled for October 16-19, 2025, would be India's most lucrative golf competition to date.

The DP World Tour has reached an agreement in principle for a three-year deal, with the official contract expected to be signed by Ben Cowen, Chief Tournament and Operations Officer, on January 22.

Delhi Golf Club captain Vikram Seth expressed confidence in McIlroy's participation, stating: "We have placed a special request to get Rory McIlroy to India and we are confident that he'll show up." The tournament would be positioned as the penultimate event before the DP World Tour playoffs.

McIlroy previously expressed interest in playing in India during January 2024, saying: "If this global tour somehow comes to fruition in the next few years, could you imagine bringing the best 70 or 80 golfers in the world to India for a tournament... I think that would change the game and the perception of the game in a country like that."

The event would join the Hero Indian Open (March 27-30 at DLF Golf and Country Club) as the second DP World Tour tournament in India for 2025. The Tour has yet to officially confirm the event, with a spokesperson stating: "Any updates to our 2025 global schedule will be announced in due course."
