Rory McIlroy paid nearly $1,000 for an Uber ride to retrieve his preferred golf clubs during the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. The four-time Major winner had switched to TaylorMade's new Qi35 driver and fairway woods for the first three rounds but decided to return to his trusted Qi10 clubs for the final round.

The clubs were at McIlroy's Palm Beach home, roughly two-and-a-half hours from the Orlando tournament venue. According to his putting coach Brad Faxon, McIlroy arranged for an Uber driver to fetch the clubs on Saturday night. The journey cost $665, plus a $330 tip.

McIlroy explained his decision to switch back: "I tried new woods for the first three days, didn't quite work out the way I wanted it to... I led strokes gained off the tee in both Pebble and Torrey, so it was a really good idea to change (laughing)."

The Northern Irishman finished tied for 15th place after shooting a level-par 72 in the final round. He confirmed he will continue using the older Qi10 clubs for The Masters in April, stating: "(I'm) going back to what I'm comfortable with."

The decision appears to be paying off, as McIlroy is currently just two shots off the lead at The Players Championship heading into the weekend.
