Sergio Garcia has expressed his desire to continue playing in the Ryder Cup before potentially taking on a captaincy role. Speaking exclusively to Al Arabiya, the LIV golfer discussed his recent decision to rejoin the DP World Tour to become eligible for the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

Garcia, the all-time Ryder Cup points record holder, was absent from the 2023 event after resigning from the DP World Tour. To qualify for the 2025 team, he must either:

  • Play minimum four DP World Tour events during qualification
  • Finish in the top six of standings by August
  • Receive one of Luke Donald's six captain's picks

"I love the Ryder Cup. Everyone knows that," Garcia stated. "It's my favorite event of the year in golf." He emphasized that his primary focus remains on playing rather than pursuing a potential captaincy role at Adare Manor in 2027.

In other developments, Garcia has received an invitation to the 2024 PGA Championship, marking his return to the major after a three-year absence.

The 45-year-old Spaniard also welcomed the recent announcement that LIV golfers can now earn spots in the US Open through a new exemption category. "The only thing we can do is keep playing, keep playing well, keep representing our game the best way possible. And then the Majors will make their decisions in who they want playing in them," he concluded.
