World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the PGA Tour's 2025 season-opening tournament, The Sentry, due to a hand injury sustained on Christmas Day.

According to Scheffler's manager Blake Smith, the golfer suffered a puncture wound to his right palm from broken glass while preparing dinner. The injury required surgery to remove glass fragments, with an expected recovery time of 3-4 weeks.

This setback comes after an exceptional 2024 season where Scheffler:

  • Won seven tournaments, including his second Masters title
  • Captured Olympic gold
  • Became the second golfer after Tiger Woods to win PGA Tour Player of the Year three consecutive times

His last appearance was a commanding six-shot victory at the Hero World Challenge earlier this month. Scheffler is expected to return to competition at the American Express in La Quinta, California, on January 16.

The Sentry tournament, formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, will proceed as scheduled starting January 2 at The Plantation Course in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii.
