Xander Schauffele's breakthrough in 2024 marked a pivotal moment in his career, claiming two major championships that transformed him from perpetual contender to champion.

The change wasn't luck or coincidence. Schauffele attributes his success to several key factors:

  • Experience gained from previous major championships
  • Addition of coach Chris Como to his team
  • Improved understanding of his game's tendencies
  • Better acceptance of his natural shot shapes
  • Enhanced discipline in shot selection

Reflecting on his past performances, Schauffele specifically referenced the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie as a learning experience. "You practice everything you're supposed to do the right way, the process, all this stuff. But I would get in some of these spots and I felt like there were certain holes in my game," he explained.

His father Stefan, who witnessed both victories, never doubted this moment would come. After the PGA Championship victory, Stefan admitted, "I just started crying. Finally it happened." The emotion continued at Royal Troon for the Open Championship, where Xander secured his second major of the year.

The transformation came from Schauffele's ability to accept his game's limitations rather than forcing perfect shots at crucial moments. As he puts it: "Along the way you learn it's not really all about that."

While Scottie Scheffler dominated the PGA Tour and Nelly Korda ruled the LPGA in 2024, Schauffele stands alone as the only player to secure multiple majors during the year, cementing his place among golf's elite competitors.
