Country Music Star George Birge's Journey from Texas Longhorns Golf Walk-on to Nashville Success
George Birge successfully transitioned from a skilled golfer to a rising country music star. Before his music career took off with Waterloo Revival and later as a solo artist, Birge earned a spot on the University of Texas golf team through a walk-on tournament.

During his college years at UT Austin, Birge won the walk-on tournament, earning him a chance to prove himself to coach John Fields. Despite intense nerves, he impressed during their round together, securing a coveted spot on the prestigious team.
As a freshman, Birge played alongside future professional golfers, including Jhonattan Vegas. This experience humbled him, particularly when Vegas outdrove him with a 3-wood against Birge's 300-yard drive, while also demonstrating superior short game skills.
