A heroic rescue attempt at Ponte Vedra Beach has left family friend Cathy Dowdy in a coma after trying to save Brian Harman's 6-year-old son from a dangerous rip current.

During Harman's trip to China, his family was vacationing in Florida when his son was suddenly pulled out to sea while bodyboarding. Cathy Dowdy, whom Harman describes as "family," immediately attempted to rescue the boy but found herself in trouble.

Another bystander, Crane Cantrell, witnessed both individuals struggling and successfully rescued them from the water. While Harman's son was safely returned to shore, Dowdy sustained serious injuries and has remained in a coma for nearly six weeks.

"They disregarded themselves, went into the water, saved my son - and how do you thank people like that?" Harman said during his RSM Classic press conference. "Doing something like that for people who aren't your blood is just the most beautiful thing you can do in this life."

The Glynn County and St. Simons community has rallied around Dowdy's family with significant support. A GoFundMe campaign has already raised over $70,000 to assist with medical expenses.

Harman used his platform to express deep gratitude for the rescuers and requested continued prayers for Dowdy's recovery, emphasizing the profound impact this event has had on both families.
