LPGA Introduces Strict New Pace Rules with Stroke Penalties to Fight Slow Play
The LPGA announced a strict new pace-of-play policy aimed at combating slow play through stroke penalties and fines. The policy introduces a tiered punishment system based on time violations.
Key changes include:
- Standard 40-second time limit per shot
- 1-5 seconds over: Fine
- 6-15 seconds over: One-stroke penalty
- 16+ seconds over: Two-stroke penalty
Additional timing modifications:
- Extra 10 seconds only for first shots on par-3s
- Standard 40-second limit on par-4s and par-5s
- Exception for reachable par-4s

LPGA Player President Vicki Goetze-Ackerman emphasized the data-driven approach and player input in developing these changes, aiming to create a more efficient competitive environment.
World No. 1 Nelly Korda supports the stricter rules, stating, "I think that the way to change it is to just toughen up the rules... if you get a one-stroke penalty, I bet you're never gonna get one again."
The new policy takes effect at the LPGA's Ford Championship on March 27, marking a significant step toward addressing pace-of-play concerns in professional women's golf.
