The LPGA Tour is implementing stricter measures to address slow play concerns following complaints from prominent players like Nelly Korda and Charley Hull. Here are the key changes:

New Penalty Structure (Effective March 27, 2025):

  • 1-5 seconds over time: Fine
  • 6-15 seconds: 1-stroke penalty
  • 16+ seconds: 2-stroke penalty

Modified 10-Second Allowance Rules:

  • Removed for first shots on par 4s and 5s (except reachable par 4s)
  • Maintained for par 3s, approach shots, and putts

Continuing Previous Rules:

  • Warning system
  • Time banking per hole
  • Excessive shot timing
  • Target timing
  • Annual doubling of fines

These changes follow significant player feedback, with Hull noting rounds taking nearly six hours and Korda stating slow play "really drags the game down." Under the previous system in 2024, 22 players received fines and nine received two-stroke penalties.

Notable Enforcement Example: In 2023, Carlota Ciganda was disqualified from the Amundi Evian Championship after refusing to accept a two-stroke slow play penalty.

The PGA Tour has faced similar challenges, with players like Lucas Glover and Byeong Hun An advocating for stricter enforcement and innovative solutions like shot clocks to improve pace of play.

The new policies will debut at The Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass on March 27.
