The LPGA Tour is strengthening its efforts to combat slow play by introducing a new season-long tracking system for bad hole times. This latest addition comes after previous complaints from prominent players like Nelly Korda and Charley Hull.

Key points of the new system:

  • Players will be fined if they accumulate 40 or more timed holes during the season
  • Implementation begins March 27 at the Ford Championship
  • Major championships are excluded from tracking (T-Mobile Match Play, US Women's Open, Dow Championship, AIG Women's Open)
  • Epson Tour players will face fines at 20 or more timed holes, effective April 25

LPGA player president Vicki Goetze-Ackerman explains that data analysis showed 40 timed holes as the critical threshold for identifying players who consistently slow down play. This new policy works alongside February's changes, which introduced penalties for excessive shot times.

The initiative follows strong criticism from top players:

  • Charley Hull proposed strict measures, including Tour card revocation after three bad timings
  • World No.1 Nelly Korda identified slow play as "a pretty big issue" that "drags the game down"

This comprehensive approach to pace of play demonstrates the LPGA's commitment to addressing one of golf's most persistent challenges, positioning the tour as a leader in tackling slow play in professional golf.
