US Solheim Cup Names Angela Stanford as 2026 Team Captain
Angela Stanford has been named captain of the 2026 U.S. Solheim Cup team, transitioning from her role as a three-time assistant captain and six-time player. The event will take place at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands from September 11-13, 2026.

Stanford succeeds Stacy Lewis, who led the U.S. team to victory in 2024 at RTJ Golf Club after a narrow defeat in Spain in 2023. The U.S. team will aim to secure their first away victory in a decade, with Stanford's experience particularly valuable - she secured the winning point in America's last road victory in Germany in 2015.
"I'm extremely grateful to be named the next American captain for the Solheim Cup and join a list of my heroes in the game," Stanford said. "I consider this the pinnacle of my career, and I'm looking forward to leading our players to the Netherlands in 2026."
Stanford recently retired after a successful 24-year LPGA career, during which she claimed seven victories, including the 2018 Evian Championship - her first major title.
Interim LPGA Commissioner Liz Moore praised Stanford's appointment, noting her leadership qualities and dedication to her teammates throughout her career. The U.S. team enters the 2026 competition with a strong mix of emerging talent and experienced players, including stars like Nelly Korda and Megan Khang.
