Rory McIlroy will keep his trusted TaylorMade Qi10 driver in his bag for the upcoming Masters Tournament, following equipment changes during the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The decision comes after briefly testing the newer Qi35 driver and fairway woods during the first three days at Bay Hill.

McIlroy, who currently leads the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee with 1.323 in 2025, experienced a decline in performance with the new equipment. His Strokes Gained: Off The Tee dropped to -0.226 during the final round at Bay Hill, prompting the return to his previous driver.

"I led strokes gained off the tee in both Pebble and Torrey, so it was a really good idea to change," McIlroy said sarcastically. "I went back to what was familiar and comfortable as I felt like I was just scrambling all weekend."

The four-time Major winner acknowledged the challenges of annual equipment cycles, noting that while new clubs may perform well in practice, tournament conditions reveal their true effectiveness. McIlroy's best Masters finish was second place in 2022, and he'll be seeking his first Green Jacket to complete the career Grand Slam.

Regarding Masters preparation, McIlroy mentioned potential course changes due to recent hurricane damage and a new green on the 16th hole. He plans to visit Augusta National "once or twice beforehand" as he prepares for his latest attempt at completing golf's career Grand Slam.
