Taiwanese Golfer Lee Claims Sole LIV Golf Promotion Spot at Saudi Event
LIV Golf has added Chieh-po "Max" Lee as its newest member through a 36-hole Promotions event held in Saudi Arabia. Lee, a 30-year-old Taiwanese professional from the Asian Tour, emerged victorious from an initial field of 92 players at Riyadh Golf Club.

Lee secured his spot by shooting a seven-under 64 in the morning round, followed by a three-under performance in the afternoon. His clutch birdie on the par-3 17th sealed his position as the first Taiwanese player on LIV Golf.
Several former LIV players attempted to regain their positions through the event, including Branden Grace, who finished T2. While Grace and others will receive exemptions into the Asian Tour's International Series for 2025, some may return through LIV's "business case" provision, particularly Bubba Watson, who is expected to retain his Range Goats captaincy.
Notable performances included:
- Ollie Schniederjans (T4)
- Brett Coletta and Jack Buchanan (T4)
- Max Rottluff (7th)
- Soomin Lee and David Horsey (T8)
The future of the Promotions event remains uncertain. Last year featured three promotion spots compared to this year's single position. The event's role may evolve as LIV Golf continues discussions with the PGA Tour and prepares for its 2025 season, which begins February 6-8 at Riyadh Golf Club.
Lee expressed enthusiasm about joining LIV Golf, stating, "It means a lot to me because I was playing on the Asian Tour many years, and LIV Golf, I think it's every player's goal, every player's target. I think I can learn something from the strong players on the LIV Tour."
