Two-Time LPGA Champion Marina Alex Retires After Season Finale
LPGA Tour star Marina Alex announced her retirement from professional golf after completing her final round at the CME Group Tour Championship. The two-time LPGA Tour winner joins Lexi Thompson and Ally Ewing in stepping away from full-time competition at the season-ending event.
Alex's departure comes during a strong run of form, including recent finishes of T6 at the Maybank Championship, runner-up at the Toto Japan Classic, and T12 in her final tournament. Despite her solid play, she felt the timing was right to end her professional career.
"It's always hard to say goodbye. I know this is what I want and it's the right decision for me right now," Alex said after her final round. While stepping away from full-time competition, she hasn't completely ruled out future appearances, noting she may attempt to qualify for US Opens.
The 34-year-old revealed she nearly retired in 2023 but continued playing, which proved rewarding given her late-career success. "I'm proud of sticking it out probably maybe a little bit longer than I mentally wanted to," she reflected. "Golf doesn't owe you anything. To be able to leave playing the best golf I've ever played, I'm really thankful for it."

Woman holds gold trophy
Alex turned professional in 2012, earning her LPGA Tour card for 2014. Her career highlights include victories at the 2018 Cambia Portland Classic and 2022 Palos Verdes Championship, a T9 finish at the 2014 Women's Open, and representing Team USA at the 2019 Solheim Cup.
Her retirement follows other notable departures from the LPGA Tour this year, including two-time Major runner-up Amy Olson, who stepped away from competition in April while pregnant.
