World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler Reveals How Wine Glass Accident Sent Him to Hospital on Christmas
A cooking accident sent World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler to the hospital over Christmas, forcing him to take time away from golf to recover. The incident occurred while making homemade ravioli at a rental house, where Scheffler used a wine glass to cut the pasta dough due to lacking proper kitchen tools.
The wine glass broke during use, with the stem cutting into Scheffler's right hand. While a friend who's a surgeon initially helped stop the bleeding, Scheffler sought medical attention when he noticed limited hand mobility and persistent pain.
"I can't live in a bubble, got to live my life, and accidents happen," Scheffler explained. "It could have been a lot worse. I actually talked to somebody who did the exact same thing and the stem went straight through their hand."

Following surgery performed by a referred specialist, Scheffler has recovered quickly. He now wears a "nude" bandage for protection but maintains he has no concerns about lasting effects from the injury.
The incident prompted fellow pro Rory McIlroy to suggest Scheffler hire a private chef, though Scheffler joked that he already has one - his wife Meredith.
This marks Scheffler's first tournament appearance of 2025 as he returns from the injury. Despite the setback, the reigning Arnold Palmer Invitational champion appears ready to defend his position as the world's top-ranked golfer.
