Former WM Phoenix Open Champion Rickie Fowler Withdraws Due to Illness After Round One
Rickie Fowler has withdrawn from the WM Phoenix Open before the second round after shooting a three-over 74 in the opening round. This marks his fourth missed cut in five appearances at the tournament where he won in 2019.
Fowler, currently ranked World No.85, was scheduled to play alongside Sahith Theegala and Billy Horschel starting from the back nine at 10:15am ET on Friday. His withdrawal was due to illness.

Prior to withdrawal, Fowler made headlines for his distinctive wardrobe choice, sporting the new Puma Golf x Realtree collection - a full camouflage outfit. The ensemble included a Deep Forest camo polo, golf pants, 5-Panel golf cap, polarized sunglasses, black belt, and white Puma Golf shoes.

Chris MacNeill, director PLM Apparel & Accessories for Puma Golf, explained that the collection celebrates golfers' connection with outdoor activities and reflects the growing popularity of camo patterns in sports and fashion. The WM Phoenix Open was chosen for the debut due to its relaxed atmosphere and high visibility.

This was Fowler's third start of the 2024 season, following a T21st finish at the American Express and T53rd at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. His most recent victory came at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.
