Fred Couples Makes PNC Championship Debut with Stepson Hunter Hanneman as Playing Partner
Fred Couples will make his PNC Championship debut alongside his stepson, Hunter Hanneman, at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando. This 36-hole best-ball event features 20 of golf's most accomplished players partnering with family members.
Hunter, who came to golf at age 10, developed his game while balancing other sports. Currently focusing on high-level volleyball, his competitive experience has prepared him for playing in front of large crowds.
The pair previously won a member-member tournament in Palm Springs, where they played alongside NFL legend John Elway. To prepare for the PNC, they spent five consecutive days practicing in Palm Springs over Thanksgiving break.

Tiger Woods, who is playing with his son Charlie for the fifth time, expressed excitement for Couples' debut through text. Couples and Hunter will play alongside world No. 1 Nelly Korda and her father, Petr.
Couples, now 65, returns to competitive golf after taking four months off due to back issues following the Masters in April. He has played just three Champions tour events in the past five months, achieving one top-20 finish.
Despite physical challenges, Couples remains enthusiastic about competing, especially with Hunter, whom he describes as a "shy assassin." Their partners during practice rounds have praised Hunter's demeanor and ability, suggesting a promising tournament ahead for the stepfather-son duo.
The PNC Championship serves as both a competitive event and a meaningful family experience, featuring 11 former world No. 1 players among its prestigious field.
