The incident occurred after Friday's second round was suspended due to darkness, with only 10 players needing to return at 6:45 a.m. Saturday to complete their rounds. Instead of withdrawing (WD) as is common practice, Pereda simply didn't appear for his restart time at 7:19 a.m., resulting in an automatic disqualification.

The DQ had minimal impact on Pereda's tournament outcome, as he was four shots outside the cut line with only two holes remaining. To make the cut, he would have needed to play his final holes (a par-3 and par-4) in a combined four-under par.

This situation stands out as unusual on the PGA Tour, where players typically withdraw before Saturday play begins if they know they'll miss the cut. Fellow pro Paul Barjon followed this traditional route, withdrawing just before play resumed on Saturday.

Andrew Novak and Rafael Campos currently share the lead heading into Sunday's final round at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
