The Desert Inn Golf Course, located adjacent to what was formerly known as McCarran International Airport (now Harry Reid International Airport) in Las Vegas, was built in 1952. The course was part of the iconic Desert Inn Hotel and Casino complex, which opened its doors in 1950.

Designed by renowned golf course architect Lawrence Hughes, this 18-hole championship course quickly became one of the most prestigious golf destinations in Las Vegas. The layout encompassed approximately 200 acres of land and featured lush fairways and challenging water features.

Throughout its history, the course hosted numerous professional tournaments, including the Tournament of Champions from 1953 to 1966. Notable golfers like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Sam Snead competed on these fairways.

The golf course operated continuously for nearly 50 years until its closure in 2001, when Steve Wynn purchased the Desert Inn property. Shortly after, the course was demolished to make way for the development of Wynn Las Vegas, which opened in 2005.

Today, while the original Desert Inn Golf Course no longer exists, its legacy lives on through the Wynn Golf Club, which was built on roughly the same location. The new course, designed by Tom Fazio, opened in 2005 and continues to serve as a reminder of Las Vegas's rich golfing history.
