McIlroy Praises Norman Despite Rivalry As LIV Golf Changes Leadership
Rory McIlroy has offered rare praise for Greg Norman following the Australian's departure as LIV Golf CEO. Despite their well-documented rivalry, McIlroy acknowledged Norman's role in establishing LIV Golf, stating "He got it off the ground. You've got to commend him for that."

Norman has been replaced by Scott O'Neil, who brings extensive experience from major US sports organizations including the NBA's New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers. McIlroy praised O'Neil's credentials, noting his "amazing track record in terms of what he's done in sport."
While McIlroy appears to have accepted LIV Golf's permanence in professional golf, he remains skeptical about its future. This is particularly evident in his stance regarding young compatriot Tom McKibbin's potential move to Jon Rahm's Legion XII LIV Golf team. McIlroy revealed he advised McKibbin against joining, saying "if I were in your shoes, I would make a different choice."
The development comes as LIV Golf secures a new TV deal with FOX Sports and makes strategic executive changes, suggesting the organization's intention to establish itself as a lasting presence in professional golf. Both McKibbin and McIlroy are currently competing in the Dubai Desert Classic, where they each shot 70 in the opening round.
